September 2004 has brought me a long searched for part for the Fenn, a flywheel and treadle. Although it's not an actual Fenn piece, and one that is, is just never going to show up I am sure, it comes very close. It is the right diameter at 27 inches and is a six spoke wheel which again is what should be there. It has the secondary and tertiary drive rings, the one and only fault is that there should be four rings on the primary and this one has three, I think considering that this is the nearest I have got in over two years of searching, I will be content. It might even be possible to re- machine it with four rings, but I doubt that I shall.

The crank axle is about a foot short to suit the Fenn, and I dare say that the wheel is totally seized to it, but ultimately I will lengthen the axle if it is weldable. A lot of very old machinery was made of wrought iron, this axle could well be the same, so at this time I am none to sure of its ability to be welded. Should that be a problem, then I will go for a new one.
